Zeusette
the Brave | ||||||
|
As a kid our family was more a cat family than a dog family. One cat that we adopted was a little white kitten. After much debate we decided on the name Zeus. The name was not a great fit and we found a few weeks later that she was actually a Zeusette. Zeusette was nimble and light on her feet, but also a bit jumpy. One time she was spooked and she ran down a hill sideways puffed up with her back arched. Quite an athletic move, though a bit of an overreaction. The house we lived in at that point was in bad shape and my parents decided to tear it down and rebuild. We had three cats at that time all who had different reactions to their home being destroyed. One thought it was great, a new place to explore. Another was clearly unhappy. Zeusette appeared perplexed. She’d periodically glance at the hole in the ground and then back forward as if she were thinking, ‘I swear there was a house here when I left this morning’. It didn’t take long for all of them to start to explore. As the foundation was laid the layout of the house started to become evident with the beginnings of walls and corners and doorways. One night, while checking out the day’s construction, Zeus spotted a mouse. She chased it through the doorway down the hall until it was finally cornered. As the mouse’s future looked bleak it turned around and hit Zeusette in the nose. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself. The mouse through itself at her doing a quasi-karate kick to her face. He did it twice and it knocked Zeus back on her haunches allowing him to escape. As I laughed further up the hill, Zeus looked stunned and embarrassed. Never much of a hunter she had now been beat up by a mouse.
